Sports Medicine & Lameness

A closer look at movement, soundness, and performance.

Dr. Heather Farmer treating a horse's lower leg with shockwave therapy

Understanding your horse’s movement

An evaluation begins with your concerns, a hands-on examination, and observation at the walk and jog. Flexion tests, an under-saddle assessment, or nerve and joint blocks may help guide further investigation. Every evaluation is tailored to the horse.

Mobile diagnostic imaging

Dr. Heather Farmer and Dr. Katie Sullivan are experienced with X-ray and ultrasound. Both veterinary trucks carry both machines, supporting bone, joint, and soft-tissue assessment during mobile visits.

Treatment and recovery

Your veterinarian discusses corticosteroids and biologic treatments based on the findings and recovery needs. Available therapies include shockwave, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), Pro-Stride, and Class IV laser. Rest and rehabilitation are part of the discussion; no single treatment is right for every injury.

Acupuncture & spinal manipulation

Acupuncture and spinal manipulation can be considered as part of an individual care plan. Discuss the appropriate approach and follow-up with your veterinarian.
